This is my version of the shawl worn by HRH Kate when she was shopping. The photo of her in it has been seen all over the world and the shawl has become a “hot topic” in the crochet/knitting world. I crochet, so I designed one that is crocheted: If you like this, you can make as many as you want. You can do whatever you want with the ones you make: sell them, give them away, wave them at raging bulls., but please, if asked mention that it was designed by me.
This used about 800 yds of fingering weight yarn and a 6mm hook

To make ruffle:
along top of shawl: 3 dc in each chain space, 1 dc in each dc, 3 dc in each row down the sides
for rows 2 and 3 of shawl, dc in 1st dc, 2dc in next dc..repeat around.
